There seems to be a lot of embellishment going on here. For instance, the CBC article (http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2007/12/03/ebay-hijack.html) doesn't mention anything about eBay hanging up on the cops.

Also... eBay guarantees auto purchases for up to $20,000, if you use the eBay payment system for the transaction.

Like I said before... economic Darwinism.

Exactly my point. eBay knows more than they are letting on.

An IP address would help the police figure out where the scammer is located, and if he's stupid enough it might lead all the way to his door. Hanging up on the cops is not cool.
