A friend is looking into making copies of the South African aux fuel tank Eric Abercrombie brought into the country a few years ago. The two options we're looking at are welded marine grade aluminum and molded marine grade thermal plastic. The aluminum tank is looking to cost $425-450 and the plastic tank is $350-375.

Both should handle any kind of fuel including biodiesel.

I'm turned on by the thermal plastic for a variety of reasons: weight, deformability and the option to use it as a water tank. A guy or gal could even run one on the left side for an absurd amount of fuel/water storage.

I'd like to get some feedback on the options, but please base it on some kind of fact.

Tom
