I don't know many details, but there is a guy with a Mercedes diesel in his vanagon. He just stripped the teeth off the flywheel, I think he had a vanagon flywheel on it, And that didn't work, and has since adapted to get a proper benz flywheel on it I think. Even the four would be huge in there, but they don't have a lot of power, I think he has a five cylinder in there.

The blocks on all VW diesels are similar but not exactly the same as the gassers.

There is one guy on the TDI-Conversion yahoo-group that has successfully swapped in a Mercedes diesel, not sure if it's a four or five though. Probably a four, the fives are huge.
