Shawn,
My relay is located under the dash approx behind the left headlight (inside the car). You have to remove the instrument cluster to get to it from the top of the dash or possibly remove the fuse panel to get to it from the bottom of the dash. On my 84 there are two relays next to each other in this location. One has I believe as 24 on it and is for the radiator fan (not exactly sure) and the other has either a 43 or 42 on it for the coolant level sensor. The relays are ALL interchangeable so don't put the 42 in the 24s place by mistake as it is an expensive part ~$80 if memory serves.
From everything I have learned from this board and personal trial and error, the relay is probably the last thing I would change. It is likely the guage itself.
I stopped mine from blinking by removing the nut on the back of the temp guage that is in the center of the 3 nuts that hold the guage in place. It looks different than the other two. BTW: some on this board have advised that this nut could be tightened slightly to solve this blinking light problem. Your might try this. It seemed to work for me for a little while.

Steven,
You mentioned the relay I'm inquiring about. Where is it located? It may not really be a relay but I believe that is what everyone calls it. I have no problem disconnecting the bulb as I am install a water temp gauge (to compliment my oil pressure gauge).Did you just clip the LED lead?

Shawn,
I spent a lot of time on this one and too much money, only to disconnect the light in the end. My conclusion was that either the gauge was faulty or the resistor in the temp circuit (on the back of the instrument cluster) had changed its value due to age.
Someday if I can find a new resistor I will replace it, but I checked everything there was to check and replaced the relay and coolant sensor, check continuity of wires and total resistance in the circut and found nothing that fixed the problem.
Good luck!
Let us know if your have a break through on this one.

seem to recall there is a relay for the
level sensor. Can someone refresh me.
