Americans don't know that the South Africans were the guinea pigs for many
of the car manufacturers.  I see this as one of the tests they are having
with them and after all the little quirks are fixed, you may see the same
vans here at the dealers.  I have seen 2.5 Diesel engine VWs with seats.
The vans were a little larger than the Eurovan.  Maybe not longer but wider,
bulkier, well made.
I don't look at it as something that the public won't like.  I think, it
will be popular, about as popular as the Eurovan.
But never will have the following what the Vanagon Westy has, unless it will
be under $10k.
Price makes a car more lovable.  Food tastes better if its not expensive.
