Thanks to everyone that replied. I got it done in ~20 minutes. I found the easiest way was to take a steel pin punch with a handle roughly the size of the roll pin and put the pin of the punch in the hole through the rolepin and just beat on it with a hammer as so many of you suggested. The hardest part was getting it aligned so that I could whack it back in, but again the punch made life easy.

Yes to locktite. When I remove or reinstall the roll pin I use a flat piece of plastic, or what ever is handy(even a credit card or drivers license will do) and place it on the armrest side of the pin to protect the material while I drive the pin in or out. This both protects the armrest and makes it easier to see and drive the pin. A 1/4in bolt about four inches long will do the job.
