I can't see how this law will stand. There must be a lot of people who have pickup trucks with caps. What will the cops do if the caps have curtains, and they can't see if you have a bed inside or not. My pickup always has a mattress inside, even though I use it for work. My syncro has the Z-bed. Wonder if that counts? Only if unfolded? What if I roll up my sleeping bag? Store it out of sight?

I would guess that this is an another attempt to create a gray area where the cops get to use their judgement. Most people probably won't get hassled. But if you and your van/pickup/whatever look scruffy, you will.

---snip Officer Roland Holmgren, a spokesman for the Oakland Police Department, said any new law will be enforced according to priority, the same as usual. "Officers are still going to respond according to priorities, and priority No. 1 in this town is protecting people's lives," he said. --snip

So how do you feel about trusting that some cop won't ticket you for having a van?
