Snake Oil.

The Vanagon PS system uses ATF (automatic transmission fluid) Dextron II. Not Power Steering Fluid. If your pump is moaning and groaning on a cold start, the pump is in the first stages of giving up the ghost. If you have put Power Steering Fluid in it, save yourself a hassle and go ahead and get the new pump. Also, expect to replace some seals in the system as well - automotive power steering fluid will cause you seals to leak and other bad things to happen.

Regards,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
