Why not just make that diesel generator into a trailer with a complete drivetrain? If your primary engine fails, you fire up the trailer and use it get home. Your own little diesel pusher.

Cheers,

How that's a great ideal 1500 diesel to power a generator, and when you 1.6NA blows up on a trip, you just pop in the generator engine and keep going . "moving guardrail . ............!! I like it ! they should all have that yellow or orange triangle 'slow moving vehicle' sign on the back. Btdt !

Yep, my 1.6TD was toally acceptable -- on some goat trail in NoFunland. The slightly more powerful 1.6NA in the US Spec Vanagon helped them earn the nickname "moving guardrail". The 1.5NA would probably good for powering a spare generator for camping in the land of NOT!!!
