Subject: Warning about VW "Factory Microfiche" CD-ROM
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

A few weeks ago I was asking if anyone was familiar with the "Factory Microfiche" repair information that is being advertised on this site:

http://www.vw.ddsltd.com/news/vwfichecd.htm

I did go ahead and order the Vanagon disc, and when it arrived it turns out that though the site claims "featuring printable pages and an easy to use PDF format" it is NOT a CD of PDF files, instead it uses the Bentley Publisher "eBahn" software, version 2.

Bentley is stopping support for eBahn version 2 at the end of this year (2007). Yes, just a few weeks from now. The license activation server has already been shut down, so when you install this on your computer you will not be able to activate your license on-line.

Bentley tech support did provide me with an activation code, but the whole thing was a hassle and I wish I had just bought the paper book.

I thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else was considering purchasing these. If you want an electronic version, I'd advise waiting until the eBahn version 3 CDs are ready.

Allan
