Depends on what you are using. Many, if not most, laptops have a monitor connection that will allow an external monitor. In that case it's a matter of plugging in the external monitor and a couple of clicks to configure (assuming you are running XP or later). For a destop you need a video card with a second monitor output or a second video card. I haven't tried it but I assume that a video card with both analog and DVI output would work with two monitors.
