Ron,

Thank goodness it didn't hit your house, and that you were not in the van.
At least the motor, trans, wheels, bumpers, mirrors and a few other parts
appear not affected.  A tree is better than a fire, if there is such a thing
as a good way to be totaled.

As for insurance value, you may wish to present some of the vans for sale on
"gowesty" as evidence of value, as I am sure you have lots of receipts and
detail of all the parts you have added to make your Westy 110%.

Hopefully you can find a good solid low miles body, in need of a motor/trans
and a few other parts, and then you can reincarnate or should that be
rein"van"ate a dead Westy, so we are "Westy neutral" kinda like being carbon
neutral.

A 60 foot tree squashed my Westy like a bug early yesterday morning.  I've
never seen a Vanagon so totally demolished.  Not a single body panel is
intact and it literally split at the seams. The curious can see some pics

While I've had a number of VW campers over the years of various vintages,
this one had a special place in my heart, as my little girl (now 9) pretty
much grew up in it over the summers.

Anyway, now comes the arduous process of convincing the insurance company
that a VW camper is worth more than the NADA book says it is. And finding a
replacement.  If anyone knows of a very clean later model Vanagon Westy
(although I wouldn't rule out a '76-79 or a Eurovan camper) that isn't
overpriced, please let me know. Driving distance from Philly is preferred
but not absolutely necessary.
