Well, here's my backyard .............ah.......hesitate to say 'wisdom.' First, I think bronze-like bushings are self-lubricating. We don't worry about them where the starter is concerned, when there is one, right ?

But I do lube them anyway. I'd just use a really good spray penetrating synthetic grease like Prolong. I wouldn't take anything apart, I'd just sneak some in there. I haven't found that water displacing spray lubes like WD-40 and prolong hurt electrical things.....but I also don't spray into alternators for example. But fan motors I do. Scott

Hi all.

Bench tested a rad fan from an 85 Vanagon "Transporter" and it runs and sounds ok. It looks original. So as a preventitive measure.....

Can I lube the motor bushings? Are they easily accessible?

Or is the fan a "sealed" affair and not worth trying to lube?

It appears that the blade unit is press fit and won't slide off easily, (and I'm learning about "old" VW plastic --- ;^) so rather than risk damage, I thought I'd access the list-o-wisdom first!

Thanks,

Neil.
