Simple. Buy a factory refurbished mac with a student discount (costing less than its dell hardware'd counterpart), and run both windows and OSX on it. It makes life a breeze : ) Then, when you want a second monitor, you just plug it in! Unless your running under windows, then even though its the same computer, it feels like the world has fallen apart.

Mac Mail is the best way to search your personal archives of the vanagon list when not online (LVC).
