You'd either have to have the powertrain protruding into the interior
(cutting out the firewall, etc.), or have 5 reverse gears and 1 very low
forward gear. No chance of flipping the ring gear like in the old beetle
trans. No getting the engine to run backwards without a special cam, etc.
No reduction boxes like the old bus to reverse the stub axle rotation.
Other than that, it's a bolt-in!
