I guess this goes to show that for some folks the only reply to 'you can't take it with you' is 'don't tell me what I can't do!'

Well, obviously most folks on this list are with you - vanagons are a pretty good compromise. Most easy riders are not quite as fancy free as they thought; you can't take enough stuff on a bike and that's how you get mega-bikes with trailers and such. On the other end of the scale, the behemoth motorhomes are just all pain and no gain in the end. Yeah, you take it all with you, but it's too much work and they tend to end up parked in one place forever. For me, the Westy is not too much pain as far as upkeep and consumption, and the rewards are just right - it makes everything just enough easier that I go more often. :)

I generally don't park near anybody else, so I don't get the amusement factor of watching others 'camp.' Sounds like fun, though. My modus operandi runs like this: after dark, drive on Forest Service roads 'til you're lost, find a pullout somewhere, set the parking brake. Voila! 'We camp here!'

Matt

Hey all, Merry Xmas from the sunny desert. We've been here about a month now and I am still amazed at the "stuff" people seem to need to travel with...
