Janet,

It sounds as if you have CV bearing issues.

Take your van to a big parking lot. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the stops in one direction or the other. Drive you van in that tight circle, accelerating and decelerating somewhat. Turn the wheel the opposite direction and repeat. If you have a failing CV bearing, it should make a popping/knocking sound. and you should be able to tell which side it's coming from.

If you need to replace a CV, I recommend Lobro brand.
