cripes, manufacturers in europe have been building cars for years that exceed this 35 mpg level. some almost double. some are even bigger cars, like audi a6 tdi for instance gets that mileage. the great gm/ford/dodge in america can't figure it out. worthless engineering imo. it's more the 'i don't care how fat i am i need a big gas hog to feel worthy and to haul my big a$$' attitude of many americans that stifles the building of fuel efficient cars in the us. look around, not many other civilised countries have such overweight behemoths on the road [and yes, i'm talking about the cars and people]. maybe they're onto something.
