Where does this tdi comment come from ?
a few days ago I commented about wanting a better auto trans for vanagons
and considering that a 911 one might be right. ( people put 911 5 speed
manual transmissions into vanagons, you're aware of that, right ? It's like
that a 911 automatic might also fit in a vanagon in that case. There is a
lot of room back there.
I don't know for certain that this tread is connected with that comment..
My vw dealer sent a guy by today delivering parts - he's doing a 1500 diesel
into a Porsche-VW 914. He's figuring to be able to see 70 mpg. Not tdi
either.
Smiles, scott

I didn't know that they made 911 TDI's?

Dear sir, if you were talking about a subaru front engine transaxle, or an
Audi one, what you say would be true.
But a porsche 911 uses a clockwise rotating rear engine with transaxle,
with the transaxle behind. Exactly like a vanagon.
Perhaps you were thinking Boxster ?

You'd either have to have the powertrain protruding into the interior
(cutting out the firewall, etc.), or have 5 reverse gears and 1 very low
forward gear. No chance of flipping the ring gear like in the old beetle
trans. No getting the engine to run backwards without a special cam, etc.
No reduction boxes like the old bus to reverse the stub axle rotation.
Other than that, it's a bolt-in!
