Hi John Most Engine stands will work if they have the adjustable mount points on it. Ive used a roll around standard Bug type 1 engine stand to build my 1.9L WBX as well as rip apart a few others. Also have had 356/912 motors on it as well as loads of bug motors and type 4s as well. But you can get a cheapo Bench mount if you dont care about rolling around and it will work just fine. Ive got 3 stands. 1 Bench mount, 1 roll around 3 leg style and a Heavy 3 fingered stand with a 4'x4' diamond plate floor base that my Bostig Zetec motor is sitting on using the adaptor to make it bolt to the vanagon trans. BTW the Bostig "Kit" So Far "ROCKS". Literally EVERYTHING is in there other then Loctite and tools. Easiest "KIT" I personally have ever seen or had. Sorry not to get off topic. Most VW vendors sell a few basic style engine stands that work great. If you get the roll around one get the newer style that will collapse and hang on the wall when not in use to preserve presious floor space.
