Yes it will work with reduced power as the only draw back.

Hi:

I know that this is backwards to the usual route but can someone confirm that a 1.9 can replace a 2.1 using the 2.1 electronics/FI and cooling.

The reason that I ask is that I am considering the purchase of a 2.1 powered syncro with a "tired" engine. I have a 1.9 that was rebuilt last year but never installed in my 85.
