NVC While the movie is certainly entertaining and does a fair job of telling a story, the movie version, as usual, is neither the real story, nor is it the whole story. To better know the man and to fully appreciate his accomplishments, read one or both of these books: "One Good Run: The Legend of Burt Munro" by Tim Hanna, or "Burt Munro-Indian Legend of Speed" by George Begg. The latter book is heavier on meticulous research, while the former is a dramatic recreation of the life of Burt Monroe that fits the facts and reflects his character without inventing any characters or changing the chronology. If at any time you have felt obsessed about your Vanagon, read about Burt Monro and you'll feel absolutely normal by comparison. |
