Subject: High idle problem
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Hi,

Now that I think I've found my cooling system problem, the idle on my 87 Westy seems to want to hang at 2000 rpm, and once in a while drop down to 1200 rpm. I've swapped out the idle stabilizer, disconnected and reconnected the plug on the stabilizer, checked to see if the stabilizer vibrates when it has power, etc. Right now I've disconnected the stabilizer and adjusted the bleed screw on the throttle body so I have a normal idle of around 900 rpm or so.

Two questions:

1. What is causing the idle to stick at 2000 rpm? (I've also swapped out the stabilizer control unit with a spare). Suggested fixes?

2. Will any problems arise if I leave the stabilizer disconnected for a while?

Thanks.

Ric
