Bill,

As to the requirement for a passport to travel between the US and Canada ... for land and sea (not air) travel, it's been postponed until sometime in 2009. All you currently need, if traveling by car, is a certified copy of your birth certificate and picture ID.

I know of which I speak. I live in Houlton, Maine which is 3 miles from the border near Woodstock, NB.
