Jeff, You are right, it is hard to see which one is the positive or the negative on the pump. But its there. The x will be the positive. The wires are different too. One has two colors and one of the colors is red, and that is positive. The other is black or brown wire only. That is negative. I think, it makes the motor run different direction if you change them. I just replaced the fuel pum in my van. How do you tell which wire is supposed to attac where? On the new pump there is an X near one of the terminals and no marking on the old. They are both Bosch pumps.
