Sounds to me like you live near a constant source of fresh food. Imagine what that would cost us way up in Northern Ontario to try and buy fresh fruit and veggies. We pay enough already for what is considered "fresh". If we had to pay anymore I'd have to sell my bus or get scurvy. Isn't Friday over ? All food should have the environmental cost, in terms of fuel consumed, and greenhouse gases emitted during it's shipping, right on the package. And food that really has a high shipping cost would pay extra, akin to a 'gas guzzler tax' on it. -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Rob Sent: Friday, January 11, 2008 11:58 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: food for fuel, was Vanagon engine conversions At 1/11/2008 10:52 PM, wrote: >I agree, and disagree with you at the same time. There is a big push these days to use oil to grow food then turn that food into fuel so you can drive to the store and pay more for basic food. But some people feel great about pumping food into their tank rather than oil <g>. If it makes you feel good to drive your food rather than eat it then good for you, I'm just bummed that the food prices are going way up these days. I used to worry about being able to buy gas, now it's if I can afford bread. No humor. There is more to be said but the Vanagon list is not the place, even if it is Friday.
