Hi. Non westy diesel vanagons are not that rare. I have two. They are in storage or in the process of me acquiring the other one, and I don't' have them ready yet, but they will be for sale. Non-westy's diesel vanagons are by far quieter than westy ones. I warm people even about the potential noise issue with diesel westy's. ( I just remembered, I have 3, counting a Canadian model I have for parts )

Parts are No Problem. You need to know the right sources, but parts are no problem at all. There are a few things that 'cost more' inherently on a diesel like an injection pump which a gas vanagon doesn't have of course......but parts for them are as available at any vanagon's parts are, more or less. I can pretty much supply *any* part for a diesel vanagon, though parts supplying is not my main thing, but either I have it, or I can get it, no problem. And not overly expensive generally either, not at all. Very 'standard' actually. You have to find the right sources of course, but I see no real problem about diesel vanagon parts, not at all. Like we're getting diesel vanagon parts all day long. It is true that generally, 'diesel stuff' costs more than 'gasoline stuff.' It's just the nature of diesel engines, but it's not really a problem. Injection pump is the most glaring , or the only, glaring example I can think of. Everything else is pretty standard, price and availability wise. There are other things that bother me about diesel vanagons, but that's another subject. But those are my answers to your concerns. scott www.turbovans.com -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Phil Cappellini Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2008 9:57 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Diesel vs Gas Vanagons?

Hello, With high and even higher anticipated gas prices, I am considering getting a diesel vanagon. The loss of going to a sluggish 1.6L diesel motor compared to my peppy 2.1L gas motor doesn't bother me....... that much. But I do have several concerns: 1. The availability of diesel vanagons - There aren't many of them around and the ones that are around are Westy's. I love Westy's but as a daily driver, over the long-run, I find them tiresome. The seven seater version seems to be very rare. 2. The availability of parts - Since there aren't many diesel vanagon's I am led to believe that parts are scarce; thus very expensive. Any comments supporting or refuting my concerns are appreciated? Anyone in the Vancouver BC area know of any for sale? Thanks, Phil. _________________________________________________________________ Discover new ways to stay in touch with Windows Live!
