Well, I think you should try a turbo soobie next then, or a turbo zetec.

A nice turbo soobie 2.5 WVR engine is 300 hp, or nearly.

Nice size package for a vanagon too.

SVX's are quite rewarding to drive of course. Like goes 80 any time you want, even up big hills.

And can do 80 mph in 3rd or 4th gear....it's the kind of power I call 'authority'.

If you're going 60 and you want to go 80, it easily changes to that speed, even uphill.

Quite rewarding that way.

I guess you'll have to test drive an SVX vanagon next !

I have owned a tiico van,a wasser boxxer van,a Subie van, and have driven a Zetec van.

The best driving powerwise was the Zetec and Subie van. The tiico was okay better than

stock. While I don't think the Zetec is cheap,it is reasonably priced for a conversion. It

is a nice design motor wise and the way the conversion kit was built. A very simple

install. Plus lots of power upgrades can be done through a HUGE tuner market. Plus

the Bostig guys can set you up with some boost. A Subaru conversion is also

very nice and you can get a pretty powerfull motor stuffed in your van going that

route. You could even do it cheaper than a Zetek if your thrifty enough but plan on

some build time. Being a virtual tinkerer I am on the fence about my next

conversion. I am power hungry.( I have a 65 Mustang Convertible with a blown 302 stroker motor that will lift the front end off the ground). But,also want something reliable in

the back of my Westy. I can't comment much on the oil burners because I don't like

the way that stuff smells! I hate the smell of the exhaust on my work and wish it

ran on plain gas.

'most torqey'......pumped up tdi's and SVX 3.3 subaru engines come to mind.

Torque is nice, but so is a rippin' high end too. I just got this 98 Impreza subaru 2.2 engine running right ............and it is sweet. It rips. Toque is ok, but it's not a torque monster of course being a 2.2, but when you have a nice lively rising upper rpm range....that's nice too, very rewarding. This diesel westy with this engine...............there is just no difference between 60 and 75 mph in it. It's always getting right into its power band the faster you go. It depends on what you want of course. I do like a rising power curve as opposed to one that comes on strong right away and then fades gradually. But 'it depends' on what you want really.

Well,

What IS the most torquey engine conversion out there for the V-gons?

Inquiring minds and all that ............
