The focus started in the US with the 2.0 zetec as the predominant powertrain in 00. In 01 for instance, when the focus was the best selling car in the world, 64% of US models had zetecs, with a lower percentage in europe as the diesel options and smaller displacement zetecs were and are quite popular. You're right about that statement not being true of a golf because of the variation across all the years you mention. You are not correct to apply this fact to the line of questioning surrounding parts availability for the focus. This is very easy to check for anyone interested in doing so, anyone can go to any number of parts stores they like and check for themselves vs. other options. Then there's the car-part.com sight to check as well to get a good sense of numbers. No arguments needed, other than those to warn of incorrect information or unstable lines of reasoning, it can be viewed first hand.
