>> i wish i had a super awesome rig that i could camp in. dont get me wrong .i love my "no frills" 84gl but... i am kinda bored with just a 7 passenger... oh well i will live vicariously through the listee's i guess. <<

After my '72 camper died all I could afford back in 1993 was a blue '84 GL. The Westys were out of my price range. There was a company, I guess long out of existence, that made a Z-Bed kit. It allowed you to make your regular back seat fold out. They also sold a curtain kit which was pretty nice. I later added a sink/fridge thing from a '70's camper and some extra cabinets. We did allot of camping in that. We still wished we had a Westy, not for the poptop but for the fridge and stove. After the '83 blowed up in '96 we decided on a Westy. Actually it felt like a step down because we were losing this nice cozy GL and getting an '83 "L" version which meant crappy seats made out of straw and a really uncool color (or we thought so at the time). Anyway, after camping in it a few times we came to realize we could care less about the fridge and stove, they can be replaced with a portable stove and cooler, it was the poptop that made it all worthwhile. Not for sleeping but for the standing room. I can see why they added those little turrent pop tops to the '60's Westfalias. It makes the world of difference. Anyway, fast forward to this year and though I still have the '83 I have a 2003 MV now and I camped in it this fall. Boy do I miss that poptop.. ;)
