I'm obviously guessing here, but the intermittent poor clutch symptoms may be due to seals in either the master or slave wearing out. IIRC, I've had a brake MC behave in a similar way. And though I've never cracked either of these open, they are likely similar in design. Best of luck with your R&R. Neil.
