Holly, wherever you are. You must have oil in the engine. Don't even need to open the rear door for that. There is a little door, where the licence plate is fitted on, open it and you will find three items. One is the reservoire for the coolant, the other is the dip stick for the oil, the third one is where you fill the oil in. Turn off the cap of the oil fill tube and pull out the middle pipe that's inside it, so you can fill in the oil easier. Oil must be 20/50. Coolant must be Prestone pink one, diluted half/half with water. Don't drive around with the light blinking. That's warning you of great trouble. Heed it. That's how your car is communicating to you. She can't hit you over the head, but she will stop and won't go anywhere unless you put a new engine in there for big money. You probably have to open the rear hatch too now, if the coolant has disappeared from the reservoire container and you need to fill up the other container that is under pressure when all things work well. Your car is not air-cooled but water cooled. Its the newer edition of VWs. Your best bet is to have one of our guys come out and check it out for you before something irreversible happens. The sliding door is repairable easily with a little attention paid to how it works and what to do with it. Maybe one of your kids can do it as a project. The rear hatch lock is full of dirt and needs to be flushed out with WD40 several times, over the course of a day or two. If coolant is gone in a big quantity, you may have a drip or a leak somewhere. Someone has to find it before all is gone in a next trip. The car has to be kept happy with all the juices and parts working well. In return she will love you and carry you forever. Wherever you are.
