You find my  write up on Long Key State Park on Road Haus site. You can camp
15 feet from the ocean just down the road from Marathon which is less
tourist-y and great island restaurants. Then zip down to Bahia Honda for the
busier family state park but LOTS to do...then to Key West if you must
