Hi,
First, you're going to remove the 'pedal assembly' not just the clutch
pedal.
( if you did want to do that, cut a hole in the body behind the left
headlight, but you still will no get clutch pedal off that giant pin it
pivots on in the pedal assembly. - you want the entire pedal assembly )
and, to get the booster off the pedal assembly, you have to undo the pedal
assembly so it's 'floating' to get at the 4 nuts on the back that hold the
booster to it.
I just looked at parts vanagon of mine.........there's two pedal assembly
securing bolts right at the top of the booster, and two corresponding lower
ones. You undo those 4 bolts, ( 13 mm hex ) pull the assembly toward you,
remove the booster, then pull the whole assembly out.
Fun isn't it !~ I do them with the dash in.
Extra lube the top of the clutch pedal - that little pin there, it's a metal
to metal pivot that wears, and you almost can't lube it with the thing in
the car. It's a classic syncro issue, for wear to occur on that pin and hole
in the top of the clutch pedal, so grease it really well going back
together. Don't try to take the big pin out, just keep the pedal assembly
as a unit. Darn nicely made part too. A vw part or design I highly
approve of actually.

Subject: How to remove clutch pedal ???
I am converting an auto vanagon to a syncro and am trying to get the clutch
pedal out of my syncro donor but cant get it to come loose. I removed the
dash, unbolted the clutch master cylinder, and unbolted the brake booster.
The Bentley only shows the lower portion of the pedal and the upper portion
of the brake booster, not the middle part where they appear to be connected.
Are there any other bolts that need to be removed?
There doesn't seem to be an easy way to access the top of the clutch pedal.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks
