Exactly my point. I have described some mods to the aerodynamics of the Westfalia camper in the past, but wanted to note how serious small changes in aerodynamics can be relative to fuel economy issues at speed. For example, the often observed rear down bias of Westy campers could have a serious impact on observed economy numbers. Ergo, placement of rear spring pre-loads to get the Vanagon bias (as usually loaded) back to the horizontal can be justified as an economy measure. I use the airlift rear spring supplements to level the Vanagon as required, routinely.
