Subject: Shift Shaft Replacement

Just performed what is likely the last possible Shift Shaft Lever installation on my 87 Syncro GL. This was one of those shot in the dark repairs that I know I won't be able to reproduce. This baby shifts like a dream.......for now. The gear on the end of the Shift Shaft is 'wallered' and the threads are stripped (end of Shift Shaft, where Shift Lever goes (I've screwed my share of things, but not this one.) Looking at the Bentley, it looks pretty straight forward (Bentley 35.98).....remove Shift Shaft Cover and it should slide out. Or will it!? Reading further, (Bentley 35.114)I see that I have to replace the Shift Shaft Seal (Fig. 3& 4)and this looks doable, but Fig. 5 shows a Shift Rod Bushing, location unknown. Come on you guys, don't make me call Daryl! Thanks in advance! Miguel
