Well, yes and no. In a Vanagon a motion at 80 mph must be straight down and so the direction is known but not stated. So for a Vanagon speed and velocity could be considered interchangeable terms:^) ----- Original Message ---- From: Andrew Grebneff <andrew.grebneff@STONEBOW.OTAGO.AC.NZ> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2008 8:04:35 AM Subject: Re: NOVC Comment on fuel economy, drag and velocity > Average velocity along interstate 5 > > was 80.6 mph It's only velocity if you state the direction. Velocity is a vector quantity. Otherwise it's speed. The two terms are not interchangable. -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin New Zealand Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut ‚ Opinions stated are mine, not those of Otago University "There is water at the bottom of the ocean" - Talking Heads ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing.
