Scraping sounds at the rear that quicken as speed picks up and slows as speed drops, are usually associated with excessively worn brakes..... in my experience.

It's and easy do to remove the drums yourself to check the condition of the brake shoes and drums. You DO NOT have to remove the Axles nut to remove the brake drums.

Follow the Bentley to back off the adjustment on the brake shoes to loosen them up, then remove the single 14 mm bolt ( it might be 12 or 10 - can't remember for sure) on the front of the brake drum outside the circle of the lug bolts. With a fair sized hammer, ball peen preferred, tap the drum all the way around, then pull the drum. It should slide right over the lug bolts. If it doesn't, apply some Marvel's Mystery Oil right at the lug bolt base, and allow to sit a while. Then apply the 200 hammer-tap principle per GM Bulley and it should come off with no further problems.I have never found one that wouldn't ( I did once - then after some fuss'n and cuss'n I realized I had forgotten to remove the 14/12/10 mm bolt).

Good Luck
