I use this stuff called Mean Green, i get it at the Family Dollar / Dollar general type stores. It's 1 - 2 $'s for a big bottle and works great. Scrape the gunk off, soak the engine bay with it, let it sit. Then rinse (hot is better but cold works). I cleaned my entire engine block / cooling tins / engine compartment with it and they look new.
