Subject: shifter working, finally
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

The Bentley spec for adjustment (a 23mm piece of sheet metal as a spacer between the shifter arm and the reverse gate) just did not work for me. I would either get 1st gear in the reverse position and 3rd where first ought to be, or 1st would be sort of "on the edge" of the reverse lockout.

Finally I used about a 25mm spacer there, and then subsequently slid the base plate of the shifter all the way to the left. Now all the gears are where they are supposed to be, but this extreme adjustment makes me think that I really need to rebuild all the pivot bushings under the car. There's a lot of slop everywhere. Hopefully this adjustment will get me through to warmer weather.
