Paint jobs, as with many other things, depend upon good prep. If you go out and just spray some paint on your plastic parts, without some prep, yes, I'm sure it will peel off in a couple of months.

Need to make sure there is no wax on the plastic, and that there is something that the new paint can adhere to. This often times means a little bit of sanding or something similar to rough up the surface. Then after the sanding you don't want the loose debris on the plastic when you spray, so you need to use a tack cloth or similar to wipe it down.

For the grills on my van I used one of those scothbrite pads to clean the bugs off the plastic. This also helped roughen up the surface just a little so that when I painted them, the paint adhered well.

To get any wax off I use naptha on a cloth to wipe things down. Remember even a trip through a car wash will often toss a bit of wax on to the exterior bits of plastic on your car.
