OK, I have my owner's manual of my 2001 Passat on my hadns now.
These are the exact words on page 6 and 7 of the 2001 Passat USA
warranty booklet:
Limited Powertrain Warranty
What is covered
The coverage under this warranty lasts for 10 years or 100,000 miles,
whichever occurs first, or until the original owner transfers ownership
of the vehicle to someone other than the immediate family member.
......
Coverage
Engine: Cylinder block and all internal parts, cylinder head and all
internal parts, valve train, spur belt, flywheel, oil pump, water
pump, manifolds, all related seals and gaskets.
Transmission: ...
Drivetrain: Differential and all internal pars, drive shafts and constant
velocity (CV) joints.
Isn't this ironic in black and white print? Every dealership I called
has denied warranty coverage. The Stevens Crook Volkswagen service rep
named John had told me serveral times that VW never had CV joint covered
under VW's powertrain warranty in his 30 years with VW. What a liar he is.
Called VWoA last year on this warranty issue. The guy initially tried
to make me believe VW did not give 10 years of powertrain warranty. Most
likely 2 years. I had to ask him to check again. He put me on hold
(for a seep of his coffee maybe) then he said it is 5 years not 2 years.
I then said I have my owner's manual that says 10 years. Then he put
me on hold (for another seep of his coffee maybe) then he agreed that
it is 10 years but CV joint is not covered. What an a-hole!!!
I have no doubt this is the main reason why VW is doing so bad in the
US market. This is exactly how they drove their customers to Japanese
brands. I had to read the eacxt words to the VWoA guy, He again put me on
hold (for another seep of coffee again I believe) then he said I have
to turn my car to a dealer and it will be up to the dealer to decide if
the warranty applies to me. Wow, change stories several times. I said
I called him because all dealers have denied warranty coverage. Well,
he insisted that only a dealership can determine if the warranty applies
to my Passat. He specifically warned me that I will have to pay a fee
to the dealer that does the inspection and makes a negative decision.
The Stevens Crook Volkswagen wanted $120 by the way for the inspection.
I just got an idea. I will go to another dealer. I will ask for warranty
coverage for the oil leak as well as the CV joint problem. I don't care
I get the CV joints covered or not. I get no advantage from reman. axles
anyway. But they can not deny the coverage for the oil leak.
Once that's done I am done with VW. Never again visit any VW dealership
for any reason. I will have no business with them ever. What a headache to
get rid off!
David
