I bought a Honda Accord for my kid to learn driving. Have had it for 8 years. Spent $500 in the first year to replace the timing belt and water pump. Had to replace a drive axle once. Other than that it just kept on going and going and never gave us any problems. I agree that it is not a fun car to drive.

The drive axle cost less than $100 from a Honda dealer. It was a rebuilt. But it was cheap and has worked great so far. All the parts I ever bough from the Honda dealer have been cheap and never had any hassle to deal with the dealer. It's a heaven and hell difference.

Yes, Passat is fun to drive. But within 7 years the CV joint is shot. Two of the ball joints have broken rubber seal already. Power window switch already gone bad. Engine leaks oil so bad that the engine compartment breaths out blue smoke all the time.

Believe me I learned a lesson. VW doesn't make quality cars. A mechanic once told me all VWs leak oil. He has not seen any that doesn't. It's true that both my Vanagons leak oil and the Passat leaks even more. Sorry for bashing VW. All I said is true. You should take a look at a valve cover gasket of a Passat. You will agree that it is a joke to have a gasket like that and asks for $50 a piece when it leaks.
