In most cases the dealer is just a middle man for both factory and extended warranties. The factory has final say on OEM warranty issues and the ESC co. does for extented warranties. The dealer has a warranty processing person but their job is to interpret the various warranty policies and make sure that all claims get paid in full. Some dealerships and/or groups such as the Lithia Group(for example) do offer their own ESC's but most come from private insurance companies and are sold through new and used car dealers with a portion of the proceeds going to the dealer. There are many different ESC providers and each one offers their product with a variety of coverage options depending on factors such as the age or mileage on the vehicle it is being purchased for. Most ESC's allow for the repairs to be done at any qualified shop that will do the job, factory warranty work is usually done only at a dealership unless there is not one nearby at which time it may be possible(d epending on the manufacturer) to have the work sublet to a local repair shop. As for new vs reman parts, some automobile manufacturers do use reman parts for warranty repairs. In these cases it is because they do not offer those items as "new", they are only available as reman. In my 24+(has it really been that long already) years in the industry I have seen reman. clutches, axles, alternators, starters, brake calipers, a/c compressors, stereos, and transmissions, to name a few, used on factory warranty repairs. Granted these items are reman. from the OEM supplier and not your typical rebuilt, not reman.(there is a difference), part that your FLAPS carries. In some situations even used parts are installed per the fine print in your ESC. This is usually done for larger more expensive items like engines and depends on a variety of variables including the availability of reman. units, age and mileage, etc. If you have an ESC from a decent company there should not be a n eed to fight over what is covered, you may have a deductible to pay but coverage should not be an issue. Smart dealers like warranty or ESC work as they know that the work will be approved providing revenue for their company, with customer pay work repairs are often put off or taken elsewhere once diagnosed due to the price quoted. Yes the dealer or repair facility makes more for the same job when it is customer pay vs warranty, but the job is more likely to be done if there is a warranty to cover it.

If you have an ESC read the fine print, it will spell out what they will or will not do, or cover.
