Yeah, no way. Do you know about each state's Standards and Measures department ? That's not about quality of fuel precisely, But they do random spot checks to ensure that when you buy 10.0 gallons of fuel, it really is 10.0 gallons of fuel. Whether they check quality, is another thing. But such things are regulated, is my point. But I think it's pretty safe to assume that it is not legal for a gas station to go and add 40 gallons of tap water to 5,000 gallons of gasoline in the ground tanks to stretch it out.

PUT water in the gas? I never heard of that unless it was a dishonest move.
