With a diaphragm type pressure plate, that approach will actually reduce the clamp load. The diaphragm spring set up has the equivalent of a "cam over" action. If you notice that when a new clutch is installed, it often feel soft and easy. As the disc wears the release angle changes and clamp load along with pedal pressure will increase. The depth is also designed so the clutch will stop gripping and start slipping as the lining wears to the rivets.

Hope I explained this so it makes sense.

Dennis

Has anyone experimented with removing .25mm/.010" from the pressure plate mounting surface of a stepped flywheel to increase clamping pressure?

Thanks Tom
