Go with a Mac... a PC... whatever you're most comfortable with - they all work for 90% of the people using a computer. If you haven't ever used a Mac, you will hate it for about 2 months, but then you'll love every minute with it. The main deal IMO is that if you are doing ANYTHING other than "business processing" Mac is superior. The only reason that a PC does better in this one context is because so many people are using them, and there are some Mac-to-PC talking issues that can make cross platform use a bit of a pain. As for programs, the vast majority out there will work on Macs. For those very few that do not, Parallels can be installed and works great - just an icon on your desktop that runs Windows. Earlier versions of these programs like "boot camp" and the like, did have some limitations, I'll admit.
