Subject: Re: windshield prices

Online quotes from www.windshieldstogo.com

HA! "Windshieldstogo.com" is actually Safelite Auto Glass. Years ago I needed a windshield for a '77 Westy. I went to the local Safelite Auto Glass, and they wanted $300.00-NOT installed. Then I found Windshields to go on the net. They quoted me a price of like $88.00, plus shipping, but said to call their 800 number and I could save shipping costs if I picked it up at one of their "warehouses". I called, and was given the address of...the very same Safelite that had quoted me $300.00!! When I picked up the windshield it was cover with 1/4 inch of dust. The guy who carried it out said he hadn't seen a windshield for a VW bus sold in years. Anyway, it was a good deal and the windshield fit fine. I was so happy at finding it at such a good price I posted it to the type2 list, and was promptly flamed by "Dr. Tim" for not finding a German made windshield-those of you who used to be on type2 remember "Dr. Tim"? Maybe in other cities they use other glass companies, but my experience wit h "Windshieldstogo.com" was good. Jeff
