Subject:      Clear hose from top of air filter box

When I was in my engine compartment earlier, I noticed that the clear
hose coming off the top of the air filter box was disconnected.  I'm not
sure how long it's been like this.

2 questions:
1) where does this hose go?  I couldn't figure this out looking through
the bentley
2) I guess this essentially means I've been running on unfiltered air
for probably quite a while.  How bad is this??
