I don't think their marketing this van towards us. Volkswagen is very very smart for doing what they did. To ship the Touran to the Americas will cost too much. There is no mistake that Dodge makes a good mini van - Ford and Chev are throwing in the towel in this one. The engine and drive train are non-VW but it is the trim and finish which is VW so in a lot of ways it will be a superior vehicle to the Dodge. It's made in Canada so it has to be good! :-)

People don't buy cars to drive for the next 25 years. Remember in VW's eyes we're weird and we don't make them any money so they simply don't care about us as Vanagon owners. Most people want to lease something or own something for five or six years until the warranty is getting stale and then sell it - starting the money making cycle again which is what the car manufactures want. VW is a money making company, not out friend who thinks we're cool driving a 15 to 25 year old van.

I bought a Touareg for many of the above reasons - nice modern vehicle with a warranty that for the next five years I have to put fuel into and that's it. There's something really nice about that.
